Unload & Uplift - A Talking Circle Providing Mens Mental Health Support in Telford

We operate two talking circles each week.  Mondays in Wellington and Thursdays in Shifnal.

These would not be possible with out the Support of St. Andrews Church and TACT who provide our spaces free of charge.

Every Monday & Thursday

This is a zero‑judgement space where you can breathe out, talk openly, or simply sit and listen. The power of being heard — really heard — is something too many men go without.

If you’re sitting on the fence, watching from a distance, or thinking “I’m not sure this is for me…” — here are a few gentle truths:

• You don’t need to talk if you don’t want to.

• You won’t be put on the spot.

• You won’t be judged, analysed, or “fixed”.

• You’ll be welcomed exactly as you are.

• Most of us felt unsure the first time too — and we’re glad we came.

• Sometimes the hardest step is walking through the door… and the most rewarding one.

WHY DO TALKING CIRCLES WORK?

3. Reducing Stigma

Talking circles play a crucial role in breaking down the stigma associated with men’s mental health. By openly discussing their feelings and challenges, men can challenge societal norms that often discourage emotional expression. This openness helps to normalize mental health struggles and encourages more men to seek help and support.

4. Empowerment and Growth

Participating in a talking circle empowers men to take an active role in their mental health journey. It provides a platform for self-reflection, emotional expression, and personal growth. As men share their stories and listen to others, they gain new perspectives and insights that can help them navigate their challenges more effectively.

5. Emotional Release

Talking about one’s feelings can be a powerful form of emotional release. In a talking circle, men can express their emotions freely, which can lead to a sense of relief and clarity. This emotional release is an essential step in the healing process, helping to reduce stress and improve overall well-being.

Talking circles, also known as peer support groups, offer a powerful platform for men to connect, share, and heal. These groups are designed to provide a safe, confidential space where men can openly discuss their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgment. Here’s why talking circles are so effective for men’s mental health:

1. Shared Experiences

One of the most significant benefits of talking circles is the sense of shared experiences. Many men struggle with similar issues, whether it’s stress, anxiety, depression, or feelings of isolation. In a talking circle, participants quickly realize they are not alone in their struggles. This shared understanding creates a strong sense of community and belonging, which can be incredibly comforting and empowering.

2. Mutual Support

In a talking circle, every member has the opportunity to both give and receive support. This mutual exchange fosters a sense of camaraderie and trust among participants. Men are encouraged to listen actively, offer empathy, and share their coping strategies. This support network can be a vital resource for individuals, helping them to feel more connected and less isolated

6. Building Resilience

Regular participation in talking circles helps men build resilience. By continually engaging in supportive conversations and learning from others, men develop stronger coping mechanisms and emotional strength. This resilience not only helps them manage their current challenges but also prepares them to handle future adversities more effectively.

Conclusion

Talking circles are more than just a place to talk—they are a vital lifeline for men seeking to improve their mental health. Through shared experiences, mutual support, and the breaking of stigma, men can find strength, empowerment, and healing. At The Breath of Life Foundation, we believe in the transformative power of talking circles and are committed to providing this essential support to men in our community. 🌟
